Chris Taylor Durant, OK Chris Taylor is an up & coming new Mississippi Choctaw/Chickasaw hip-hop/rap artist from Durant, OK. He was born in Durant on March 26, 1990. During his youth he moved various times to different cities in surrounding southern Oklahoma, but always returned back to Durant where he has made his home permanently since the age of eleven. During his sophomore year he attended Jones Academy, A Choctaw based boarding school in Hartshorne, OK, returning to Durant High School to finish his sophomore year. His junior year of high school saw him returning to Jones Academy and subsequently returning back to his family in Durant mid-year.At the age of 15, Chris wrote his first song, “Love Song.” He counts Motown, Soul, Classic Rock, 90’s R&B, Hip Hop & Rap as important musical influences with Tupac Shakur as a respected primary influence for his lyrical & story telling abilities. Chris counts his family as his primary inspiration in striving for success in the music industry. The lack of many resources in his youth inspires him to strive for success in his musical career and in his life to have a positive effect on Native American youth by becoming a positive role model. Chris regularly performs at birthday parties and various holiday parties throughout the year. He has performed locally at Club Mix in Ada, OK, and recently was fortunate enough to share the stage with internationally known actor & music artist Litefoot, as well as other Native American musicians O.I.T., Indian Soul Men and Butch Powell and the 50/50 Band at the Native American Fall Music Fest in Tulsa, OK. Among the current projects Chris is working on is promoting his debut album Mix Tape 2009 and is projected to have this debut album in Native American Travel stops, museums, & local music stores in southern OK and northern TX by the beginning of 2010. Chris lists performing at the 2010 Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, NM and Native American reservations across the nation, receiving a NAMA nomination, and ultimately having a 1 hit on the charts as ultimate goals.
