Description
I wrote this song after a friend of mine asked me to contribute a song to a baseball-themed compilation he was putting together. Initially, I declined, thinking that I could never write a song about baseball. My friend was bummed out that I had declined, but then a day or two later, this song came to me in one sitting.
Lyrics
Rain delay Tension in the park You said the game would be underway before it gets dark Staring at the jumbotron Something in me said I think I'd better put on my helmet Before you throw a knuckleball at my head Man, it's gonna be a shutout Hey, I just know it I could knock it past the fence if I tried real hard but I can't hit what you're throwing Think I'm gonna just strike out I don't care about winning But I'd give away everything I own If we could play an extra inning But I think I'm going home You say time will help me heal As overly-zealous fans are throwing trash in my outfield I think I need another look Let's see that again Because baby I could have sworn The third base coach was waving me in Man, it's gonna be a shutout My average sinking You can tell me all you want You could change your mind Baby I know what you're thinking Think I'm gonna just strike out I don't care about winning But I'd give away everything I own If we could play an extra inning But I think I'm going home Baby Don't play around with me My heart has been dugout, you see
